Diederendirrix has been selected to prepare the urban regeneration vision for part of Bergen op Zoom’s first urban expansion. The area between Wassenaarstraat and Zuid-Oostsingel has a distinctively layered history. It was part of the city’s characteristic fortifications that were transformed into an industrial district in the 19th century. As well as defensive and industrial remnants, the area contains interesting post-war reconstruction heritage: the former police and telegraph office.

Diederendirrix will work with client Maas-Jacobs and the Municipality of Bergen op Zoom in a 100 days collaboration to produce an urban and landscape design that will enable the accelerated development of housing on the site.
