In 2006 diederendirrix made a study of the town plan and block typology of Zeeburgereiland. Our findings are incorporated in the final, integral town plan put together by dRO Amsterdam. In total, the plan is made up of 1,700 houses, 2 secondary schools, 2 primary schools, diverse small-scale plinth functions and a sport hall. We started with a global urban development plan characterised by an open central space with synthetic grass playing fields for use by Zeeburgia football club. Two garlands of buildings encircle the open space. The inner edge is arranged as informal palazzos on a low plinth and the outer contour acts as a closed sound barrier. We primarily chose stacked dwellings apart from at the northern edge where110 ground-access types overlooking the Buiten IJ are proposed. The link to the former sewage treatment plant is made by three characteristic silos, two old pump house facades and the recently realised ‘booster’. The two silos to the west accommodate the new Annie M.G. Schmidt house.
