In Oisterwijk, diederenendirrix developed eight houses in Torenbeemd according to the cradle to cradle principle. We choose to use renewable products both for materialization and energy provision. The setting is an unused plot behind the vicarage, between the churchyard and a school, characterised by many trees and bushes. The design does not divide the plot in the customary manner but envisions, instead, a shared garden containing 8 houses that preserves and makes optimal communal use of the existing green space. The transition from communal to private living is made by the use of verandas and the creation of a private garden on the roof of each residence. The flexibility of the interior design contributes strongly to the durability of the project. The materialization is primarily wood, with massive wooden floors, flax or wool as insulation, etc. Energy provision is restricted to the passive house level. Air-to-air heat exchangers and sun collectors combined with a CO2 driven ventilation unit satisfy the remaining energy requirements.
