Tagrijn

Hilversum

The design for Tagijn in Hilversum has a clear layout with a strong internal logic. The functional units comprising music café, large auditorium, offices, artist’s accommodation, loading bay, backstage and bicycle garage are recognizable volumes. They are stacked and clearly twisted in relationship to the music café and large auditorium. The trapezium-shaped block enjoys a predominantly frontal approach. The bicycle garage and music café can be seen in the front elevation and the main entrance is located in its right hand corner. The public are visible from the street and thus put ‘on stage’ in this visual-spatial game. Material choice, colour and wall tectonics give expression to the building. The inner world filters through a profiled and partly perforated crimson steel skin. At the entrance, the foyer and the music café, this extraordinary facade simultaneously covers and displays the accessibility and openness of the interior.
