The urban plan for Stratumsedijk in Eindhoven provides for 48 apartments with commercial spaces on the ground floor and, on the terrain to the rear, a further 53 ground-access townhouses. The urban context includes the two approach roads to the centre of Eindhoven. The challenge was to find the right urban scale for the junction between the Aalsterweg, Leenderweg and Stratumsedijk. diederendirrix achieved the correct scale by placing the apartment blocks in segments along the bend of the Leendeweg towards the Stratumsedijk. The vertical differentiation created by the segments is reinforced by the height difference of each segment. The neighbouring buildings are no longer the only point of reference and the view of the St Josef church from the Aalsterweg is retained. The terrain to the rear is mainly bordered by the rear elevations of houses. The plan is opened out by a courtyard structure.
