Stedelijk museum

Amsterdam

The mass concept for this project is an abstract repetition of the existing Stedelijk museum in Amsterdam which, when taken together with the public passageway, meet the objectives of the desired program. A logical whole within which old and new find a natural balance is created in our design. It is an assembly that displays its quiet side (as do the Rijksmuseum and the Concertgebouw in the Museumplein) yet is open hearted enough to slowly reveal its internal dynamic and spatial experience. The internal street brings introduction and entrance together. The museum shop, information centre, restaurant, auditorium, entrance hall and museum world all face towards the passageway and reward the passerby and museum visitor with an inviting glimpse of the interior. The entrance hall is the dynamic public intersection that is in direct contact with all public functions.
