Like so many areas in Eindhoven, this site has the unique chance of being transformed from an industrial area into a colourful residential environment. The aim of the commission is to show the development potential of the area in the context of the quality characteristics of the surroundings. diederendirrix’s approach is typically all-encompassing and includes important components such as cultural-historical research, land remediation issues, analysis of subterranean infrastructure and plan phasing which takes into account the continuation of NRE activities and the inclusion of the DAF museum within the whole. Frequent meetings with interested parties plus insights into limitations due to pollution and cultural history gradually produced a result. The vision in the plan does not pretend to be a final design. Instead, it offers a well thought out and inspiring initiative to construct an urban development plan.
