Philips intends to show its unique historical collection on permanent exhibition in a new museum in Eindhoven. The museum will be located on the spot where, in 1891, Gerard Philips started the business by making light bulbs. The future museum will continue to display a different part of the permanent collection of Philips products. Space for exhibitions, lectures, excursions, receptions, functions and special events is also included. The old Philips factory in the Emmasingel undergoes renovation and is extended by approx. 1000 m2. In our design, the historical character of the original building is retained but the museum is given a modern twist. A contemporary addition, beyond the original profile of the building, is made at roof level. In an elegant and unexpected way the transparent glass beacons relate both to the existing building and to other urban architectural perspectives. In the yet to be realized square, as shown in the new urban development plan, the original office and front elevation once again become visible.
