Oosteind

Oosterhout

In the structural plan, the rural area between Oosterhout, Oosteind and Groenstraat is identified as an area most suitable for the introduction of unusual residential environments. The commission is underpinned by a particular approach i.e. the development of new residential landscapes in the context of the transformation of the agricultural landscape. In the new, small-scale hamlets, villages and country settlements, people will live in the midst of the park-like fields and woodlands. Our study gives an idea of this approach. In two locations, roughly equivalent to those on the planning map of the structural plan, diederendirrix designed two separate hamlets. In doing so, the structural plan is both respected and simultaneously tested for its possibilities. A number of models were developed to gain an idea of the size and density possible and two preferred models were expanded further. The design study focuses primarily on the visualization of the unique character of the hamlet in relation to its surrounding landscape, the other hamlet and the existing ribbon villages of Oosteind and Groenstraat.
