Venlo

The Maaswaard plan, together with the Maasboulevard and Q4, is the third largest urban planning project in and around the inner city of Venlo. The restructuring of formerly industrial Venlo-Zuid resulted in an entirely new profile for Venlo on the Maas. It is, therefore, important that the valuable cultural-historical elements are treated carefully. The national monument Nedinsco is located within Plan Maaswaard and is an excellent example of the industrial architecture of the Nederlandse Instrumenten Compagnie. The factory complex was designed around 1920, by the German architect Hans Schlag, for the production of Carl Zeiss Jena periscopes. Over the years a conglomeration of factory halls including a former chocolate factory has grown up to fill the Nedinsco site which is to be redeveloped.
