This duo-block is the first of 4 housing complexes to be realised in this park-like area and is part of an urban development plan from the Lubbers’ bureau. The complex consists of 40 apartments (for rent or for sale) and 3 penthouses with underground parking and storerooms. In the context of the village, the considerable size is minimised by use of a terraced layout and a gradation of outer spaces. This reduces the massiveness of the architecture without destroying its strong character. Verandas, terraces, receding and overhanging balconies ensure the homes face the green surroundings as much as possible. The two blocks, set at an angle to each other, align themselves differently to their surroundings. The angular rotation creates a collective inner space between the volumes which can be connected to a terrace in the park by opening pivoted gates. Generous circling galleries plus the lift and staircase, designed as independent elements, offer access to the apartments.
