 For the redevelopment of ‘t Karregat diederendirrix used the strength of the original building as its starting point. The original roof and the unique steel umbrellas form the main concept of the new design. The transparency of the facade restores the relationship with the surroundings and emphasizes the characteristic construction of the roof. The umbrellas are wrapped in a translucent material, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the building. Simultaneously, this solves climatological problems and the dust nuisance. All functions are organized around a flexible core. In this core we find a meeting space, gym, event hall and a large patio which provides daylight. By positioning the educational cluster and commercial cluster around this core, a multi-functional zone is created, which challenges users to interact and meet.
