The Gouden Leeuw site on the south edge of the central area of Venray commands a strategic position and has the potential to become a fully fledged entrance to the city with an attractive urban residential environment. The insight to open, rather than close, the facade contour on the Langeweg came from an analysis of the structural layout of the buildings on the Ringweg. The loose, transparent urban architectural design along this ring road continues on into a green park-like area. On the side adjoining the centre, we chose a more city-like approach. Both the pedestrian area within the shopping precinct and a succession of residential volumes come to a conclusion in the Gouden Leeuw square. The use of an S-shaped urban structure creates a double orientation between the plan components, park and square.
