The Gebouw Anton is a national monument which forms part of a series of old Philips factories in Strijp-S in Eindhoven. The area is redeveloped from being a closed industrial enclave into a vibrant new district in the heart of the city. Known locally as the ‘hoge rug’, the construction which includes the Anton building now forms the historical backbone of the new district. diederendirrix combined residential, commercial and recreational functions with each other in high density in the Anton building, thus generating a new style of urban living within. An informal atmosphere is created by the use of large elliptical stairwells, within which the stairs join the different levels together. These allow residents, employees and visitors to meet each other in different and unusual places.
