De erven

Vleuten

De Erven was one of the last section plans to be developed in the Vleuterweide. To the north it borders on Vleuten but is separated from it, in the north east corner of the plan, by a railway embankment with a new station. The taller apartment blocks are set against the embankment to shield them from the noise of the trains. De Erven is relatively small in size, so diederendirrix chose to give it its own identity rather than incorporate features from the adjacent section plans. Residential blocks with inner courtyard parking spaces form this identity and also ensure that the public spaces are less dominated by parked cars. The non-hierarchical placement of the apartment blocks produces a varying public space with a film-like character. This character is sustained by homogeny in the landscape. Only the access road that cuts though the landscape has a distinctive shape.
