After the 2006 plans for a large-scale redevelopment for the complete city centre appeared not to be feasable, the municipality of Best in october 2010 decided to reduce their plans to an urban infill development within the current city centre: the so-called basisplan. In collaboration with Buro Lubbers, diederendirrix has elaborated this plan to a viable plan in program, infrastructure, finance and above all spatial quality, accompanied by a new architectural framework and guidelines for future buildings. The plan aims at a fortification of the urban structure of the Hoofdstraat of Best. By introducing a number of volumes a new urban fibre shopping streets, gardens and the new city square. A parking route and underground parking provides ample parking, good accesibility and an easy flow of traffic. Ground floor levels of the new volumes consist mostly of commercial spaces, the upper floors comprise of smaller housing in a spatial, lushious, village-like setting around green rooftop gardens.
