In the Boschveldweg in Den Bosch, diederendirrix created a unique combination of residential and commercial spaces. On one side the building borders the monumental roofing of the train station platform. The shape of the building block is determined by the program, city building regulations and the noise level of the (railway) traffic. The commercial spaces form a backbone towards the railway track and serve as sound barriers for the residential and outer areas. The work space has an attractive shape which provides a spacious orientation, plus sunlight, for the housing lying behind. The facades consist of vertical brick bands. Function, position and orientation were decisive in the design and choice of material. In this way, individuality could be expressed without loss of the primary architectural form.
